Fractured Visions, 2014

An AR installation exploring the visual neurological disorder Palinopsia in which people suffering continue to see an image after the original stimulus has been removed or see it doing something it isn't still doing. The word "palinopsia" comes from the Greek words palin, meaning "again", and opsia, meaning "seeing".

Fractured Visions was an augmented reality installation commissioned and curated by AXNS Collective. Artist Tamiko Thiel and psychiatrist Dominic ffytche from the Kings College London Institute of Psychiatry collaborated to create an AR experience depicting the effects of Palinopsia, a visual perceptual disorder.

The installation was located on the KCL Guy’s campus by London Bridge and exhibited as part of Merge Festival. Accompanying the installation, was a seminar series about the relationship between art and neuroscience.
